Overwhelmingly, PA voters want fair districts. Our legislative leaders continue to ignore voters.
Read our response to HB 2207.
On January 4, 2022 the Chair of the House State Government Committee introduced House Bill 2207. The bill proposes to amend the PA Constitution to abolish the current Legislative Reapportionment Commission (LRC) and replace it with an 11-member “citizens” commission that would be appointed by leaders of the General Assembly.
This is NOT the impartial independent citizens commission voters asked for. It is a politically appointed commission.
The bill was passed out of committee shortly after 8:30 AM on Monday, January 10. There have been no public hearings and no opportunity for public input. Legislative leaders stalled and ignored vetted and bipartisan impartial citizens commission bills—despite significant public, municipal government and legislator support.
A true independent citizens commission is needed. HB 2207 is not the solution.
Call your Representative today and tell them PA Voters don’t want this bill.
My name is [give your full name]. I live in [name of city/town/boro]. I am calling to ask Rep.[last name] to oppose HB 2207. It creates a politically-appointed, partisan redistricting commission. It does nothing to increase transparency or define criteria in map drawing. I want an impartial citizens redistricting commission with strict transparency and map drawing criteria.
Please support and vote for Rep. Steve Samuelson’s amendment(A03343)that would finally give PA voters the Independent Citizens Commission that they have been asking for.
