Opposition to House Bill 2207

Fair Districts PA sent the following letter to members of the House State Government Committee in response to HB 2207 introduced on January 4 and scheduled for a vote on January 10.

Vote NO on HB 2207 and its Sham “Citizens Commission”

On behalf of thousands of Fair Districts PA volunteers across Pennsylvania, I am writing to urge you to VOTE NO on House Bill 2207 which is currently scheduled for a committee vote on Monday, January 10th. There are many problems with this bill, but here are some of its most serious flaws:

For many years now, Fair Districts PA volunteers and others have been asking the General Assembly to reform the redistricting process, to end the conflict of interest that allows lawmakers to choose voters rather than voters choosing their representatives.

Rather than giving voters the kind of reform they have demanded, House Bill 2207 would actually make the problem worse by setting up a sham commission but leaving the real power in the hands of the majority party in each chamber of the General Assembly.

Pennsylvania voters deserve much better than this. VOTE NO on HB 2207.
