Event Description

The Pathways Institute of Lifelong Learning at Landis Communities presents:

Is Our Election System Failing US? Threats and Opportunities for Change in PA.

Trust in American elections, once considered a bedrock of our democracy, has been declining for years. Does our electoral process represent the will of the people? How do partisan primaries disenfranchise voters, distort representation and fuel political division? What role do gerrymandered districts and outside interests play? How can the public hold officials accountable and participate in local affairs? This course will discuss our current election system and suggest improvements for change. We will take a hard look at solutions and how we can move forward towards a more functional and representative government with free and fair districts that represent all of us.

This workshop begins with a review of our current election system and suggest improvements that would make government more responsive to its constituents. The second half of the workshop will focus on the solution to gerrymandering in PA. Leading the discussion will be Jerry Henige, member of the advisory board of West Chester University; and Tony Crocamo, Executive Committee of Fair Districts PA.

$13 for Pathways members, $26 for non-members.
