Event Description

In late 2016, Katie Fahey founded Voters Not Politicians, a grassroots, nonpartisan campaign that ran a successful effort to end gerrymandering in Michigan by amending the state constitution in 2018 with 61% of the vote. Her unlikely journey began with a simple Facebook post asking if anyone wanted to help take on gerrymandering in her state, which unexpectedly sparked a powerful citizen-led movement. Her TED talk about that effort and what she’s learned about making political change has inspired over half a million views.

Currently, Fahey serves as Executive Director of The People, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that empowers everyday Americans from all political backgrounds to actively participate in creating a more responsive and accountable government. Fahey will share highlights of the Voters Not Politician story, then join FDPA Chair Carol Kuniholm in a conversation about ways to expand citizen engagement and advocacy in every part of Pennsylvania.
