Know Before You Vote: May 2021

Find out where candidates in the 2021 special elections stand on redistricting reform.

Fair Districts PA is tracking where all PA state legislative candidates in the May 2021 special elections stand on replacing our hyper-partisan redistricting process with a transparent, accountable and responsive process.

We asked candidates to answer our survey questions:

“What is your position on an independent citizens redistricting commission?”

“What is your position on legislation to ensure transparency, public input and clear, enforceable criteria for redistricting?”

Candidates were also invited to provide up to three links to statements or video on redistricting reform or to the issues section of their candidate website.

Comments: District 48 is a prime example of a severely gerrymandered district. Redistricting must be removed from the hands of politicians and put in an independent commission.

I reference you to my website to see my position on gerrymandering and other issues. I am the candidate that is best know in all parts of this district providing care to the beloved family pets for the past 35 years.

Comments: Spend a few minutes going thru my website. It gives a fairly honest and accurate view of who I am and why the voters in the 48th Senate district should vote for me. The next 18 months needs experienced politicians who know how to compromise. The other three candidates running are good men but lack the experience I bring to the table from day one of my term.

Timothy McMaster (Libertarian)

What is your position on legislation to ensure transparency, public input and clear, enforceable criteria for redistricting? Supporter

Please provide one or more links to your statements about redistricting:

Comments: My District, Senate District 48, is one of the worst examples of gerrymandering in Pennsylvania. Many of my constituents did not even KNOW they were in the 48th. The district has been shaped this way to ensure domination by the controlling party and controlling county seat, at the exclusion and disenfranchisement of a large, unrepresented population. This must end. And I will work tirelessly to see that a non-political, non-partisan solution is created and enforced to guarantee that ALL voters are fairly represented.

PA State House District 59 (Westmoreland, Somerset)

Mariah Fisher (Democratic)

What is your position on an independent citizens redistricting commission? Supporter

What is your position on legislation to ensure transparency, public input and clear, enforceable criteria for redistricting? Supporter

Please provide one or more links to your statements about redistricting:

Comments: I will fight to end any legislation that limits any persons access to, or engagement in, voting as well as eliminate gerrymandering. I believe a citizen-led redistricting that takes politics out of district maps is necessary. I believe voters should choose their legislators, rather than legislators choosing their voters through redistricting.
