If commission members are picked at random, how will we insure they reflect the diversity of the state’s residents?

SB 22 and HB 722 state that commission members “shall reasonably reflect the racial, geographic and gender diversity” of the state. While this may seem difficult to do if members are selected at random, modern technology actually makes this very simple.

Enabling legislation would set parameters for a digital randomized-selection algorithm. This algorithm would select commissioners in a way that meets any criteria enacted, such as representation from candidate pools, or representation across demographics. The algorithm used would be made available to the public to maintain complete transparency.
